Searching within Merlin X

Merlin X utilizes a search bar and some defaults you may find helpful.

(Icons from left to right. Photos, Video/Audio, Other, Text. Pages are still found under “Other”)

(This example shows everything but “Video/Audio” checked on)

By default (shown above) you will see Service ID and Publication Date

Service ID defines the product you are searching for (CNG, SCRTT, WBCV, HAZSS, POTRH, etc.)

Publication Date defining the date the product ran on.(By clicking ignore you can change it to “On, Before, After, Between, Today, etc.)

In Merlin X the Main page will have the defaults discussed above with the added ability to customize what you see on your main page.

To add a field to your search click the + button at the bottom of the Search box which will create a drop down box titled “Please choose a field” The default search options that are already added are the most used options. But you can customize your palate to contain whatever other criteria you would like to search with.

If you click the drop down box, you will see all the options.

Click one of the options to add it to the search box (in the image below we clicked “Byline”)

Viewing your search results

Merlin X has simplified viewing search results in a few ways.  Merlin X will load your results to the main page on the fly all you need to do is scroll down to see more when you cannot scroll any more you have seen all your search has to offer. In this example we are a broad search for photos in the CNG product.

You can change the View Mode of your search to by clicking the buttons located on top of your results

By default you will be viewing a Grid Style (shown above)..

Toggling these buttons will change your view to a Grid, List, Single, Slideshow style. Below is a close up of the toggle buttons.

(From left to right, Grid, List, Single, Slideshow. Grid is selected)

Clicking and object will select it displaying info about the object in the Metadata Box found in the right section of the page.

(May be on the left side of your screen) This info was previously found by clicking the object and using the menus within, now it is all displayed on the main page.

(The Metadata Box and any box can be moved  by clicking and dragging the box to it new location your cursor will turn to a hand icon letting you know you can grab it, shown below.)

Double clicking an object will enlarge, displaying additional information, Zoom Buttons as well as Next and Previous buttons.

While in this window you are effectively in the “Single View” Mode, to go back You can click the back button in your browser or click one of the View Mode Buttons (Discussed earlier) to return to the Grid or List mode

Interacting with objects in Merlin X

To interact with an object previously in Merlin One you would use the buttons found under or above the image, for example to print you would click the “Printer” button to bring up a printer friendly version of the content. (Seen Below, First showing out of object. Second in object.)

Now in Merlin X in the upper right hand corner you will find the print function along with several other tools.

The Download function(Cloud with down arrow) is added with Melin X it can be used to save objects to the local device there may be a slight  delay between clicking download and actually getting the download window.

(From left to right: Home, Links, Compare, More Like This, Download, Share, Print, Select All, Sort Order)

To use any of these functions select or open an object and press the desired button.

Or with object open

Text in  Merlin X (I.e stories)  will be handled in the same manner as it is today with copy and paste

Interacting with Pages

To View and interact with pages previously in Merlin One were opened by clicking the page to open the page, then clicking the page again would open the PDF in browser or download it depending on your browsers settings.
