Installing Cisco AnyConnect on your personal computer

Employees of Times-Shamrock sometimes have needs to access their workstations or internal systems while away from the building.

To accomplish this safely, we use a software by Cisco called AnyConnect. This will allow your device to establish a secure VPN connection to our systems and allow the appropriate access required based on your specific needs.

Staff utilizing Company owned and managed hardware remotely will have access to a limited number of systems and functions directly.  While users installing and running this software on their home computers will be restricted to remotely controlling their in-house workstation for security reasons.

To install AnyConnect first you must be provisioned access by IT. Your domain credentials will be updated to allow the appropriate access - and you will need to use them to access the software and set up the new installation on your personal workstation (company equipment will either already have the appropriate software installed or an IT technician will remotely connect to your internet connected computer and set it up for you.)

You will also require a Cisco Duo account in order to connect to the system to both download the software as well as connect to the VPN each instance. This will be activated at the same time your AnyConnect request is processed

For a company-owned device, please call the helpdesk and we will assist you in the install…

to install Cisco AnyConnect your personal device:

Once you have been set up with a username and password and you have completed the Cisco DUO activation process; from your internet connected computer, open a browser and go the the following address:

https://anyconnect.timesshamrock.com

On the resulting page you will be required to enter your username, password and the second password as indicted in the Cisco DUO instructions.

Once you have successfully authenticated the software package will download to your computer and you may complete the install process using all the default settings.

Once the AnyConnect application has been installed on your computer, open the application and enter the address to connect to as anyconnect.timesshamrock.com then click connect

You will be presented with the Username, password, second password window and will enter the credentials provided to you by IT. Again second password would be where you will either use your DUO 2factor code; or type push and receive a push notification on your linked smartphone - you can then press the allow button on that notification to connect.

This will complete your connection to the VPN and you may now connect to your internal computer using your local VNC or RDP application.

Remember to disconnect the AnyConnect session when you are finished, and be aware that any sessions left unattended or inactive will automatically time out and disconnect after 30 minutes of no activity.  Maximum session time is 10 hours and will also automatically disconnect.
