Remotely connect to your workstation from a Mac

_ Prerequisites:  _

  • Know what computer you are using by the Asset name on the white sticker. If possible also record your IP address for your workstation.
  • Make sure that when leaving the office each day that you REBOOT your workstation so it is running and waiting for a connection
  • Have a valid Cisco Duo install and set up
  • Have Cisco AnyConnect installed on your remote workstation
  • Remote workstations are required to have a current and supported, actively patched operating system (Windows 10 and up, MacOS 10.13.6 and up), and a commercially available Malware protection from a trusted vendor installed and running with active protection.
  • A home / remote internet connection of DSL speeds or better, minimum of 10Mbps download x 2Mbps upload speeds. Connection preferably hard wired to the router with Cat5e or above cable. (custom length cables can be provided at request)

To remotely connect to your in-office workstation you will first need to be connected to Cisco AnyConnect using your credentials provided, and validate the connection using a Cisco Duo 2FA

Once connected; from the Mac desktop select the GO menu and then the Connect to Server option

In the resulting window enter vnc:// and the IP address of your internal workstation X's are used for placeholders in my example. Then Click connect

Enter the password you were provided to connect to your computer, do not save the password, click sign in and your session will open. You can then log into your workstation using your normal credentials as if you were at your desk.

NOTE: if your computer has multiple monitors it may be difficult to see everything. IT can assist you in adjusting your monitor configuration remotely if you would like, just call and a tech will set your workstation to a single monitor.

ALSO NOTE: If you are connecting to a PC from a Mac and need to use Ctl-Alt Delete use the Function-Ctl-Option-Command-Delete all at the same time, from the Mac keyboard to send that unlock command to the PC.

Once the session is open you can save a shortcut to launch it in the future by going to the Connection menu and selecting Save As, name the shortcut and locate it somewhere on your workstation for future use.
